Cafe Lotte

Set amongst the backdrop of Hepburn Springs – Victoria’s much-loved wellness hotspot – is Cafe Lotte. A celebration of hyper-local ingredients, seasonal cooking, specialty coffee and Victorian focused wines. Lotte is a love letter to the region founded by a group of friends that aim to bring a fresh face and engaged dining to Hepburn/Daylesford for locals, city day trippers and tourists alike. In keeping with the seasonal theme, the identity allows for growth and evolution as the food and landscape changes throughout the year.

A selection of wordmarks and logomarks were created to help distinguish each mode of the venue; café, wine bar, bistro. Particularly inspired by the ideas of Hepburn and surrounding area as a long-time point of exploration; whether its gold, leisure or culinary. This collage of elements play on ephemera loosely associated with the outdoors, hiking or travel in the analog era. Often a hodge-podge mix of type, photography and graphics that evoke the tactility of travel guides, catalogues, scrapbooks or field notes.

One mark of note is the murnong (or yam daisy), which has a strong connection to the Wadawurrung People and Hepburn Shire. Although driven to near extinction due to colonisation, this highly-nutritious tuber has a significant legacy as a vital food source to the Indigenous peoples of the area.

The colours of Lotte flow across a spectrum, from the crisp and sunny tones of a seasonal morning, to hints of earthiness found in oranges, browns and native greens that speak to the region (dare we say, the ‘terroir’).
